LONDON, UK — February 2026
The mission to kill the marking mountain has just received its biggest global validation to date.
We are proud to announce that
ExamGPT has been named
Assessment Tool of the Year at the
2026 WorldWiDE EdTech Awards.
In a crowded field of generative AI tools and generalist chatbots, the judges selected Excelas for a specific reason: our unwavering commitment to
specialist infrastructure,
examiner-level accuracy, and
human-in-the-loop safety.
Validation on a Global Stage
When we built ExamGPT, we had one goal: to stop the burnout of our best teachers. We knew that the
marking mountain, the endless piles of mock papers that ruin weekends, was the single biggest administrative burden facing schools.
Winning this award confirms that the sector is ready for a shift. It is a move away from "novelty AI" (chatbots that write poems) towards "utility AI" (infrastructure that solves logistical problems).
The Judges’ Verdict: The panel highlighted three key drivers for the win:
- Time saved: Real-world evidence of teachers reclaiming hours of their week
- Standardisation: The ability to apply a single, rigorous mark scheme across hundreds of students instantly
- Timely feedback: Closing the gap between "sitting the test" and "learning from the test"
Impact in the Real World
This award belongs as much to our partners as it does to us.
We have been delivering this specialist accuracy for forward-thinking trusts like
Ormiston Maritime Academy (part of
Ormiston Academies Trust) and
St Peter’s CofE Academy (part of
Woodard Academies Trust).
It is their willingness to trust a
Vertical AI solution that has allowed us to refine our engine to its current
90-98% accuracy rate.
"This isn't just an award for us; it’s a win for every teacher who has reclaimed 4 hours of their weekend because our specialist infrastructure handled the mock marking."
Why "Responsibility" Won
Perhaps most importantly, the WorldWiDE team recognised that
AI in education must be safe
.
We don't believe in "Black Box" grading. We believe in
Human-in-the-Loop systems where the AI acts as the "first marker," but the teacher retains the final oversight.
By prioritising transparency over speed, and accuracy over fluency, we have built a tool that schools can actually trust with their data.
The Excelas Team
The Next Step
While we are incredibly honoured by this recognition, our focus remains on the classroom. We’ve celebrated the win; now we’re back to the work of standardising assessment for Trusts across the country. The marking mountain is smaller today than it was yesterday, but our mission isn't finished until every teacher in the UK can leave school on Friday knowing their weekend is their own.
Thank you to the
WorldWiDE team, our partners, and the teachers who help us learn every day.
