The RISE of Regional AI Blueprints: Why Your 2026 Strategy Just Got a Local Map
The RISE of Regional AI Blueprints: Why Your 2026 Strategy Just Got a Local Map
For the past year, Multi-Academy Trusts have been waiting in a holding pattern for the "RISE" school improvement blueprints. This term, the wait ends.
Douglas Leckie of the Department for Education recently confirmed that the much-delayed
RISE Regional Improvement Plans are set for a summer 2026 release. These aren't just high-level policy documents; they are the blueprints that will define how every region in England delivers on the government’s core priorities:
attainment, attendance, and inclusive mainstream.
But for the forward-thinking MAT CEO, the most interesting part of Leckie’s briefing wasn’t the national goals, it was the focus on "contextual areas of challenge."
1. AI and Tech: No Longer Optional
For the first time, "AI and tech" have been formally named as one of the underlying regional priorities. The RISE plans will articulate exactly how each region is expected to use technology to drive attainment.
In 2026, the DfE isn't looking for "cool gadgets." They are looking for financial sustainability. With
staffing accounting for 62% of the budget, the RISE blueprints are expected to highlight AI as a tool for reclaiming human capacity.
- The Challenge: Most regions are currently stuck in the "generalist trap", using basic chatbots that lack the "Pedagogical DNA" to be trusted with high-stakes mock data.
- The Opportunity: By adopting Vertical AI like ExamGPT now, your Trust isn't just "trying a tool"; you are aligning with the coming regional mandate for tech-driven school improvement.
2. The Shift to "Regional Delivery Partnerships"
The release of these plans will coincide with the appointment of Regional Delivery Partnerships, teams of sector leaders who will oversee progress on local priorities.
These partnerships will be looking for
"low-risk, high-impact" solutions. They won't have time for the "data autopsy" of
21-day marking lags. They will be looking for:
- Data velocity: Instant, trust-wide QLA (Question Level Analysis).
- Standardisation: Forensic accuracy across 50+ academies that removes the "He said/She said" friction in parental engagement.
- Outcome-led success: Proven results that move the needle on the 0.4% real-terms funding gap.
3. Reclaiming Parental Engagement
Parental engagement was specifically highlighted by Leckie as a "contextual area of challenge." As we’ve discussed in our previous blogs, the secret to the "Gold Standard" isn't just standing at the gate, it’s
digital transparency.
The RISE plans will likely set "minimum expectations" for home-school partnerships. By providing parents with instant, examiner-grade feedback via ExamGPT, your Trust moves from a "Complaint Culture" to a "Partnership in Attainment" before the first regional auditor even steps on site.
The 2026 Mandate: From Reaction to Alignment
The source of truth is clear: the most successful Trusts in 2026 won't wait for the RISE blueprints to land. They will already be the case studies the DfE uses to prove the blueprints work.
We are moving away from "generalist noise" and toward regional signal. The question for your Trust board this summer is simple: Are you building the infrastructure to meet these regional goals, or are you waiting to be told how to catch up?
